"Hmm, cute place, wouldn't you say, kip?" Riley looked at her partner, just a baby. "kip kip!"
Walking through the town was nice. Riley was able to flirt with a couple boys and girls. She got thrown out of a bar. She was on a roll! But what she needed was a place to stay, and a place to battle.
"Fluffy! come on out! no more in your cage!" Riley let out fluffy after Sly and walked through the town with her pokemon in tow. People looked at the small, beautiful girl with such hard looking pokemon. She relished it.
We need to find a place to stay, Pokes. You have any ideas?" He pokemon were always speaking to her with a language she did not understand. She really ought to get pokemon who can read minds. It would help with surveying who to mess, too.
"Well, Pokemon centre it is, then!" Riley said as they made their way there. Only about a day and she would be kicked out. That was her goal. maybe less? Nah, she needed sleep. Her journey here was enough.

Hiker Anthony had walked for quite a long time, and he was appropriately tired. Anyone would be. (He might have been less tired if he would just follow a regular trail, but that's the way boring people traveled.) That said, the people of Vardent Town were a friendly kind, and he felt welcome. The local bar kept him refreshed, and he had quite a fun time. It was a beautiful day outside to boot.
After some time, he figured it would only make sense for him to bring his pokemon into the Pokemon Center to get some rest. He stood up off his bar stool, and it let off a loud screech as the weight was lifted off it. He slung his bag over one of his shoulders, feeling an intense weight burden his shoulders, but he was used to that by now. He ran his hand down his thick beard, and decided it was probably time to get a shave; he'd probably get to that later. He left the Bar, ducking under the top of the doorway, and for an instant blocking out the light that came into the dim bar.
After a short walk through town, he was at the Pokemon Center. He entered the same way he'd left the bar, his bulk filling up most of the doorway. He took off his gear and his vest, setting them near a table. Walking slowly across the room, he gave his pokeballs to Nurse Joy, with trust that she'd know what to do.
Looking around, the hiker noticed that other than the nurse and him, there was only one other person in the room. He briskly walked over to her and offered her a glazed doughnut.
Why do I climb mountains? Because they're there!
Why do I train Pokemon? Because they're there!

"Huh? Oh, of course! Thanks so much, babe." Riley said, winking a bit to the man. He was quite large, obviously a heavy traveler. He kind and had a warm look on his face. Time to end that.
"Sit down!" Riley said, gesturing to the seat in front of her. Riley had scared away all of the other men and women from the centre, and now it was time to mess with Nurse Joy a bit.
"So, I don't have much money, babe. Is there any way I can repay you?" Riley said, her eyes and smile revealing more than her words. Hopefully the man would get creeped out and leave soon. If he stayed? No one has ever stayed before...
Seviper and Mudkip were with her, with Sly being treated for some R&R. Her pokemon desperately wanted a fight. They wanted something to do. Maybe this dude could help them. Or at least ease their boredom and agitate Nurse Joy some more.

"No problem," the hiker humbly replied as he gave the fresh doughnut to the woman sitting in front of him. He wondered briefly if she had something in her eye, because she was sort of winking. He sat down when the seat was offered to him. All the people in this town really were nice! Of course, when you offer a person paistries, the general response is friendliness. Who knew, Anthony might leave this town with a trimmed beard and a new friend.
The woman told Anthony of her current financial problems, and inquired about if there were any possible way she could return his favor, but Anthony refused. "Why, I give just about everybody food, um, Ma'am. Now there is no way I'm gonna have somebody pay me, especially if they're having financial problems!" Frankly, the hiker was surprised that she'd even consider. Most people just accepted his generosity as it was. "You don't worry about that one bit now, little lady. I'm Anthony, by the way." After this brief introduction, he removed his bucket hat and stuck his hand out, revealing the sloppy hair cut he did himself in the woods to keep it out of his eyes.
His hatchet fell off his bag on the other side of the room with a dull, but loud, "thud."

Why do I train Pokemon? Because they're there!

The thud knocked Rley back to reality. How could someone be so oblivious? He threw her off guard. A frown furled on her face, but dissipated once an idea came into her head. This guy doesn't know anything! He will be able to mess with Nurse Joy better than most guys!
"Oh, so nice! You rally are an excellent man," Riley said, while putting her hand on his shoulder."I'm Riley, babe. Nice to meet you." Riley said as she sled her hand down Anthony's arm. She would do everything in her power to aggravate Nurse Joy. Aggravating those sisters always gave her such joy!
"Well, I have to wait for Sly to get better. Wanna keep me company?" Riley said, taking a bite of her doughnut,

Hiker Anthony could feel the hairs on his arm move under the weight of the "little lady"'s arm. "Well, of course I'll keep ya' comp'ny! Not like I have anything better to do here anyway." The hiker paused for a moment, unsure of what to say. "D'you like the doughnut?"
He already knew the answer would be yes. The answer was always yes. It could well be that this particular hiker carried around the best paistries in the whole world. It could well be...
That said, Hiker Anthony was starting to become suspicious of the person he was conversing with here. He usually gave people the benefit of the doubt, and rarely considered that anyone might be thinking of doing something wrong. But this woman had an air of mischief on her, and it was pretty obvious to Hiker Anthony.
... That or he was just getting hit on. He didn't experience either very often, so he'd kind of gotten bad at telling the difference. He'd just have to see how things played out.

Why do I train Pokemon? Because they're there!

"Well, they are pretty good doughnuts" Riley said. This was perfect! This buffoon had no idea what she was doing! Every once in a while she noticed he would give some look, not a strong or obvious look, but a look nonetheless. Riley was very adept in picking up on people's emotions and faces, but this hiker guy totally threw her off.
"Say...babe. You seem incredibly strong and smart. Do you think you could do me a favour?" Riley said, with a twinkle in her eyes. This could be he thing to get her noticed if she could get this guy--Anthony was it?-- to do what she wanted, she would be known throughout this new land.
Her Pokemon knew exactly what she was trying to do, and Kip jumped on Riley's lap. Was she going to far? Well, she would just have to ask and find out.

To be 100% honest, The hiker was flattered. But then, he was always happy to hear that his doughnuts were good. Unfortunately, she did only say "pretty" good, but this was most likely because she didn't have Anthony's intense passion for good pastries, and couldn't see just how good the doughnuts really were. All tastes are acquired, after all.
Anyway, suspicions about intent aside, Hiker Anthony was never one to disappoint someone who needed his help. "Well, Riley, I'd be glad to help you." He actually was quite reluctant to do whatever it was Riley had in mind, but he figured it was usually better to sound sure of yourself.
On a mental level, he braced himself for whatever task was about to come his way.

"Well, baby, this may come to a surprise to you, but people find me completely irritating!" Riley said, as emphatically as she could, then taking a look at the obviously irate Nurse Joy. "People just do no like me! I was wondering, while I'm on a little mission, if you could stay with me ad help me out with any...troubles, I might face along the way." Riley said, with a grin. Sometime within her sentence, she put her hand on Anthony's arm.
"Also, I would love more of these De-Lish-ous desserts!" Riley said, followed with more sycophantic slurs to persuade Anthony to join her. Obviously, him joining was not what she wanted to ask, but Anthony did not seem as dopey as Riley originally thought. She would need to keep a keen eye on him to find out if he was the right person for her task.
"Well, What'll it be, baby?" Riley said, staring intently at Anthony.

It wasn't a rarity that Hiker Anthony go off on a strange journey in order to aid some random stranger, but this particular lady was sending all sorts of bad feelings towards the mountain man. She just seemed... suspicious. The hiker was about to decline the offer, something he very rarely did, but then she mentioned the pastries again.
This woman new how to get to a hiker.
When a woman compliments your mother's cooking, there's no going back. Anthony accepted the request, he had to. However, this didn't mean he wouldn't be alert. And an alert Hiker Anthony can very easily become a scary Hiker Anthony. With any luck, nothing would happen, everything would be fine, and nothing would get smashed.
That was probably a silly thing to worry about though, because 9 out of every 10 problems can be solved with doughnuts. According to Hiker Anthony, this was a statistical fact. Eventually, Anthony decided he needed a little more insight on the situation he was in.
"What're you doing anyway, where you need my help?"

Riley saw it the moment she caught him. She reeled him in with pastries! This guy was dopier than she thought! She would have a lot of fund with him.
As Riley started on about what she was going to be doing in preparation for their leave, Anthony asked her a weird question. She didn't think he would ask into it. "Oh, you know, just some generic stuff--getting acclimated to this new region; learning the tricks of trade from a master pastry maker; and some other, arbitrary stuff." Riley said. She tried to make it as light-hearted as possible. The less he knew the better.
Riley could tell he was wary of her. She saw it in his eyes from time to time. She had to lure all suspicion out of him. Being good wasn't something she was very adept at doing by now, but she figured she might as well give it a shot, Anything to build up to what she had planned.
"Well, we should get some sleep, then set off! May I have a couple more doughnuts before I go, though? And you haven't even told me anything about you!" Riley said. Maybe warming up to this guy was the thing that would ease his suspicious mind.

Anthony was weary of Riley. Anthony was also aware that Riley was aware that Anthony was weary of Riley. Anthony also anticipated that Riley might be aware that he was aware that she was aware that he was weary of her. In short, Anthony was ready for whatever might come his way.
Eyes narrowed, Anthony nodded his head in acceptance to the request aimed at him. At this point, he only had one true goal, and that was to tell the tale of his epic journey. But, he pondered, How can mere words do justice to such a magnificent tale, filled to the brim with romance, mystery, drama, and excitement?
He would have to do his best. It wouldn't be easy, but who was better suited to tell his tale? No man, that's who. And so the Hiker was off, knitting a literary sweater with his epic yarn.
...
And maybe some polyester, but that's a different story.
After about seven doughnuts for Anthony, and two given to Riley, the tale was over. They had laughed, they had cried, and they had grown. (Hiker Anthony may or may not have done all of that himself, without Riley.) And by the end, Hiker Anthony was actually a little tired.
"So that's my story, little lady."
Why do I climb mountains? Because they're there!
Why do I train Pokemon? Because they're there!

"Um.....Amazing! Arceus, you're a good storyteller." In actuality, Riley was exacerbated with Hiker Anthony. He had told a story that was.....Riley didn't even know what the hell it was. The story was a mix of things, but it left her asking questions only philosophers thought. She thought he was messing with her, but his sincerity conveys that this actually happened, and Riley was confused about life afterwards. She got a grip just at the right time and complimented him. Her astonishment was used to hide her confusion and stunned feelings.
"Well, uh, I'm really tired, babe. We really should take a nap and then get ready to set off!" Riley got up and adjusted her dress. She woke her pokemon and sent them off to her room. She went to leave with Hiker Anthony until the two parted ways. She went to sleep unsure as to how the next day was going to unfold.

Hiker Anthony had no idea where he was going to go to sleep tonight. Frankly, he usually didn't spend this much time in town. He walked around for quite some time, he decided there wasn't really any way he was going to come to a clear decision about what to do, and just left town. Once he was out in the open, he knew exactly what to do.
In the blink of an eye, Anthony had a campsite up, with a nice cozy fire nearby. He would have to return to town when the sun rose.
And that he did, waking majestically with the Spearow's call. A hike back to town was no feat for the hiker, as it obviously shouldn't be. He was back in the pokemon center early enough that Nurse Joy herself was sleeping at his entrance. She seemed annoyed at first, but warmed up to the hiker after he gave her some nice breakfast pastries.
(GUUUUH this post is so short. I'm sorry, I'm tired.)

Riley loved Anthony in some ways, hated him in others, and was confused with the rest. He was quite an enigma to her. Looking out her window at the dark-blue sky only to become saddened by the sight. Riley did not come here to make friends, rather to find one. Well, at least, that's what she tells herself. The sky seemed so big to Riley that she barely even noticed the footsteps of Anthony as he went past her room.
Riley fell asleep with Cara in her mind, Kip on her belly, and Seviper at the foot of her bed. When morning arose, Riley spent 20 minutes trying not to think of the sun shining on her face. She also tried to block out the baby pokemon's shrill cries. After waking up and showering, Riley went to the lobby of the centre only to meet Anthony and his pastries. "Hey, babe! You're up so early! Oh, hey there, Joy. You're looking especially beautiful today. Why don't you come give me a goodbye kiss?" Riley taunted the nurse for a few moments, before scoping out the area of the lobby. Riley looked for any new faces on which to wreak havoc, but alas, there was none.
"So, babe, you wanna go? This place is dead. Time to move on" Riley said. She tried to focus on where exactly she could go, but fell short. "Do you have any ideas?"
