"Come on, Kip. This forest isn't even scary." Even so, the mud fish pokemon was shivering in Riley's arms. They were on a hunt for a Scyther, and Riley even found it appropriate to have a net that could engulf her own body. Only had to sweet talk some bug catcher in the forest for it. Little did he know he wasn't getting it back!
Riley had every intention on catching a Scyther, and left every other pokemon alone. She scoured most of the forest for it, but started to grow sad. This pokemon was rare, sure, but not this rare.
Riley looked at a small stump and sat down. She was indeed tired and hated walking, but this forest just seemed to make her more and more sad, despite its lush greenery and foliage. She heard some rustling, but it could have been her own pokemon moving about the grass. She decided to go deeper in the forest. Hopefully it was there, because she didn't know if it went much farther.

There was a peculiar thing about the Scyther that lived within the expanse of trees known as Hikari's Forest. While the name would imply it to be a bright, happy place filled with Pokemon friendly and the like, the more rare and vicious Pokemon that inhabited the area from the times when a great beast lurked and attacked travelers was like a juice stain on a masterpiece; ugly and ruining. Because when people came to the forest hopping to catch a glimpse or literally capture some of the more vicious Pokemon, what they didn't know was that they didn't hunt the Pokemon. The Pokemon hunted them. This was the same case for the brown-haired woman daring a trip through the woods all by her lonesome save for the small Mudkip at her side. If she wanted a Scyther, a Scyther was what she would get: just not exactly how she would have imagined in the first place.
The one particular bug-type Pocket Monster had been stalking the girl ever since it layed eyes on her early in her hunt. It had been following her ever since, making sure to stay just out of eyesight or else it would easily be spotted and it's plan to sneak up on her would be wasted. Time passed them by while she looked alert, too alert for the beast to jump her without the assault being noticed first. She'd sat down at the stump of a once grand tree for a moment and she'd almost made her move there, only to rustle the leaves and send the supposed trainer back on her way. (Darnit...) However, it wasn't much longer until impatience got the better of it. Falling into place behind her, the duel-type creature finally made it's move, letting out a battle cry and letting loose a Vacuum Wave attack on the trainer and her water-type Pokemon.

Riley turned the moment she heard the pokemon scream hos or her namesake. The pokemon let out a Vacuum Wave attack at the two, but Kip, knowing how take a hit already, jumped in the direction of Riley. "Kip, Mirror Coat!"
Riley saw her mud fish pokemon grow a pink coating around her body, absorbing the attack and shooting it out faster at the Scyther. Actually, the price of a mirror coat attack was pretty worrisome--the pokemon took the attack head on--, but Riley knew the attack wouldn't knock out her Kip that easily. The attack was still on its way to the bug pokemon when Riley ent out her Seviper.
Fluffy, her Seviper, didn't really have attacks to hurt the pokemon with a lot of damage, but neither did the Scyther, right? "We'll see how you deal with Fluffy! We're gonna take you out!" Riley said this with a wink to agitate the pokemon. Knowing the speed of such pokemon, Riley figured the pokemon would either escape the attack or not. If it did, she would be ready: "Fluffy, poison fang! Be careful, though. Watch the Scyther." If not, the pokemon would be relentless--she always taught them persistence was key.
The pokemon would try to tire the bug pokemon out. Whatever to keep him or er in top shape. Riley didn't need a disabled Scyther on her hands. She still needed to get back out of the forest.

To the bug-type's surprise, the trainer and Pokemon duo were not caught off guard by his sudden battle cry. In fact, their reaction time was just as good as his would have been if the roles were reversed, if not better, not that he'd admit to having a slower reaction time than a soft trainer's Pokemon. Not a second after his attack was unleashed did the human call out a command to her Pokemon, the Mudkip tensing and glowing pink before taking the hit and throwing it right back in his face. Thankfully, due to it's fighting-type nature and his own flying sub-type, the attack did minimal damage, but enough to knock him back in a mixture of force and suddenness. He had only just started to get up when his opponent was recalled and replaced with a much more ferocious looking snake-like beast. “We'll see how you deal with Fluffy!” she called out pointlessly. “We're gonna take you out!” In the time wasted with words, he'd cast a Focus Energy on himself in order to boost the chance of a critical hit with his next attack. However, he didn't have long after that before she was commanding, “Fluffy, Poison Fang! Be careful, though. Watch the Scyther.”
(Who even names something Fluffy?
) the Scyther thought to himself, only to be hit dead on by the poison-type's attack. Neutral damage this time. That was going to hurt in the morning. However, his battle moral was not lowered at all by the decrease in health. Instead, the bug countered with a Pursuit attack, hoping his boosted critical hit ratio would cause the attack to do even more damage his opponent should it hit.[/blockquote][/blockquote] WILD SCYTHER APPEARED! Pursuit was a good attack. With the seviper moving so quickly, and Fluffy just using a move, the attack hit with power and precision. A critical hit knocked Seviper back. Tha attack was not extremely strong initially, so the critical hit was not that devastating. "Come one, Fluffy! Once we get him, you can name him whatever you want!"
"Sssoundsss good to me..." The snake pokemon said, obviously using the taunt as motivation towards her future attacks. "Fluffy, flamethrower! Get that bug away from you." The pokemon relied too much on physical moves, and muting those attacks only gave him one real attack to use. The flamethrower was meant to burn, but not kill. The attack was just a way to get some distance. Once the attack was done,
Riley ordered her pokemon to get a poison fang ready. The poison that dripped from her pokemon's mouth was deadening the leaves upon which the drop landed. Riley did not care to have a poisoned pokemon anymore--she just wanted to win. The bug type would either stay a distance away, which flamethrower could easily fix, or he could attack with a poison fang waiting.

With his Pursuit attack carried out, not only landing, but also gaining that critical hit he'd hoped for with the Focus Energy he'd used just moments before, the Scyther took a moment to do something as idiotic as brag in his mind about a job well done. A hit! And a good one, too! Not too many more like that and the snake would be running back home for Mommy, no doubt! And in his silent victory skit, he hadn't even heard the conversation going on between trainer and Pokemon just a few feet away. “Come on, Fluffy! Once we get him, you can name him whatever you want!” (S-sounds-s good to me...) “Fluffy, Flamethrower! Get that bug away from you!” … Actually, in actuality, he didn't hear what they were saying at all, which made it so that the flames that cascaded out of the Seviper's mouth were that much more of a surprise and hurt that much more. (Gah!) he shrieked, trying to shield himself with his own bladed arms, but only managing to burn them, instead. Type match ups lead this attack to deal maximum damage, wearing the poor bug out to less than half health. He wasn't weak, but that thing was strong.
In his fit of agony, the bug-type hadn't noticed her order a Poison Fang, either. Today was a day of not being very aware of his surroundings, as was proven by the way he prepared a Quick Attack... only to find himself in the poisonous fangs of a snake aiming to hurt him. He was lucky enough to get away without poison again, but that was made up with a critical hit instead. (Not... fair...!) he heaved, exhausted and with only a fraction of his initial health left. It wouldn't take much to have him in a Poke'Ball at this rate. (You didn't even... have a higher chance for a critical hit...!) Swallowing his anger at being so easily beat down, he prepared another Vacuum Wave attack, knowing it may have very well been his last defense against being captured.
This was not going to be pretty.

"It doesn't need to be. I just need a pokemon so overzealous that an attack can take it by surprise. You're weak." With that, the vacuum wave shot straight for Seviper. "Fluffy, poison tail!" Her pokemon was starting to get tired, she could see it in his attacks. Slowly but surely, the pokemon was losing health and stamina.
Seviper took the hit, but reflected some of the attack towards a tree. An indent showed the sheer power of the attack, despite it being such a weak one. "That could have been critical, if Fluffy let it. See? It's about the pokemon, not always the moves."
Riley looked at Seviper, obviously worn out. "Let's end this, eh, Fluffy? Now, use a glare attack! You don't close your eyes until you hit!~" Of course, this was just preparation for something else. Hopefully the Scyther would take the bait. However, if the bug pokemon took the attack and became paralyzed, well that would just make everything much easier. Riley took a second to see if the paralysis set in. She had the attack on the tip of her tongue, just waiting on some sparks across the pokemon's body or a quick movement.

“It doesn't need to be,” the trainer spoke and for a second, he pondered whether or not she was speaking to her own Pokemon. However, his suspicions were proven wrong with her next comment. “I just need a Pokemon so overzealous that an attack can take it by surprise. You're weak.” Okay, this was... strange. Strange in the sense that he had dodged so many rookie trainers before, and even some veterans, and not a single one had been able to understand what he was saying. It was common logic. Pokemon could understand basic human words like attack names, and those who spent time with trainers long enough started to pick up on the meanings of certain words and phrases over time, but rarely could a human understand a Pocket Monster as though they were speaking the same language, especially not a wild one. However, while the language barrier made it so he couldn't fully understand what she was saying, he could still pick up the taunting tone in her voice. It was then that the Scyther new that it was time to pull his act together; he'd been slacking thus far, but he would be humiliated any longer.
“Poison Tail!” the brunette commanded, her snake using its own attack to deflect a bit of his fighting-type move and redirect it into a tree. However, it still received the brunt of the attack, growing increasingly worn out. Not that he, himself was in much better state. In fact, he kind of envied the 'mon before him, even if only because it was probably having an easier time moving around than he was. “That could have been a critical if Fluffy let it,” the trainer was lecturing. “See? It's about the Pokemon, not always the moves.” By this point in time, his confusion was replaced by acceptance and, well, slight annoyance. He still couldn't understand a good eighty-five percent of her words and man was her voice grating on his ears. “Let's end this, eh, Fluffy? Now, use a Glare attack! You don't close your eyes until you hit~!” Sure enough, the Seviper prepared a Glare, a move meant to paralyze the target upon hitting. However, the bug-type had promised himself to get in the groove for the first time since this whole fiasco started and, darnit, he was going to do it. It started with him jumping out of the line of site and dodging the move. Of course, she'd ordered him to keep trying until the attack landed, which meant that simply moving out of the way wouldn't do. He had to find a place to hide – and fast.
Well, there were a lot of trees, right? Jumping into the bushes and making a few unnecessary noises as if to make it seem like he'd run off, he settled within the leaves of the flora, successfully avoiding the attack and hopefully keeping himself hidden with his green skin until he had a battle strategy to know the opposing Pocket Monster out.

Was Riley some gifted pokemon reader? No. She wasn't very normal, though, either. After years of playing men, women, and even pokemon, Riley became extremely adept in picking up on pokemon and their feelings. Though she couldn't know exactly what her seviper said, she knew what he felt, and a general idea of what he said. Riley did find it a bit arbitrary to speak to this pokemon who 1: did not care and 2: could not understand. She couldn't help it! She treated her pokemon like humans, telling them stories and speaking to them. This pokemon was taken aback by the damage of the hit, and even more taken aback from the "mind reading" abilities of Riley. She decided to use that to her advantage by letting imagination get the better of the bug type.
The bug pokemon hid in the grass somewhere. He was trying to evade the glare attack, which was pretty smart. Riley decided for a better idea that to paralyze the pokemon. "Fluffy, flamethrower in the foliage! You burn this forest down to get the Pokemon!" Luckily, another accident like the one in the Ormy territories wasn't going to happen here; it was way too damp for any serious wildfire.
The smoke did prove to be a good way to lure the bug type into the clearing, though. If the Pokemon escaped from the billowing smoke that engulfed the shrubbery, he would be met with a glare attack. If the pokemon were to stay in the burnt areas, he would be safe to plan his next course of attack, with smoke filling his lungs. Or, was there some other third, fourth, or fifth option?

For a bit, it appeared that the Scyther had finally gotten the upper hand, leaving the trainer to review her options in this scenario. While the phrase “felt like an eternity” was so cliché it hurt, it was a fitting one all the same. How long was it going to take her to come up with a plan of attack that took into consideration the fact that it would be difficult to pin-point the bug-type's exact location? Honestly, it probably didn't take her more than a moment, but the anticipation of another attack seemed to drag out his time spent in the foliage. He was so worried, in fact, of an incoming attack that he hardly even came up with a battle strategy of his own as he had planned. He'd only realized his mistake and started brainstorming what to do to to in order to defeat the snake Pokemon once and for all when he was abruptly cut short by the command of, “Fluffy, Flamethrower in the foliage! Burn this forest down to get the Pokemon!” Wait, what? What? Was the universe honestly telling him that this girl was crazy enough to burn down all of Hikari's Forest just to lure a Pokemon out of hiding? His initial instinct was to run for it. He didn't want to fight no crazy lady! However, reason set in shortly after as he realized that, no, that wouldn't accomplish anything. If anything, that would only make things worse. If he ran, she'd continue setting everything aflame until she hunted he or another Scyther down, and even they would run at the sight of a wall of fire. He was stuck. And his only option was to surrender or face the threat head on.
(You won't get away with thi-)
The intended cry was supposed to be a warning call as he shot forward and out of the flora with a powerful Quick Attack, partially to escape the flames that were about to turn him into roast and partially to show that he was here, he was not running, and he was going to stop them from burning down any more of his home. For something called “Fluffy”, that thing was more tough than he could have imagined at first glance. However, she must have already anticipated it, little hecker, for the moment he made eye contact with the Seviper, it was as though all of his muscles shut down and he fell limp to the forest floor before his attack could really carry through. He'd been hit by a successful Glare attack, was paralyzed, and was basically doomed no matter what he did. If he got out of this, he'd think next time before stalking and attacking brown-haired girls through the forest in search of a meal.

Riley was one to gloat, yes. But she only did gloat when it helped her, or, at the very least, didn't hurt her. This scenario wouldn't help, as it would give the pokemon time to gain some strength to move. Riley quickly shot a Pokeball at the, but type sprawled on the floor. The ball moved once, but Riley was sure she would catch it. Riley looked around. The area was toasted a bit. She would have to do some major bonding with this new pokemon. The pokemon didn't seem happy when the ball was launched at him.
Riley stared at the ball intently. A second nudge told her that she would soon have the pokemon. She thought of how she was going to train him. Would she keep him as a Scyther, or search for a metal coat? She knew this pokemon was tough, so she would have to do some major reconstruction before even thinking about evolving. Also, this pokemon needed to be conditioned for contests.
Riley looked at the ball for a third nudge to indicate he was caught. Well, she could just burn him more until he was caught./ Hopefully it didn't come to that. Hopefully the pokemon knew better.

One would think that being generally unable to move ninety percent of every muscle in your body would be the worst thing to happen throughout the course of a day. After all, knowing that you're completely vulnerable until it wears off after an hour or so or you faint and wake up even longer after that is pretty sad overall, and just knowing that you're stuck in place against your volition for any amount of time is terrifying to say the very least. He recalled a time when he'd awoken and suffered from a short bout of sleep paralysis. While he rarely was ever paralyzed – too swift, too powerful – every time he was it brought him back to a time when his body wasn't quite as awake as his mind and it was impossible to open his eyes or open his mouth or move his arms and legs and it was... well, again, terrifying. But this he knew would wear off. What was even more scary was the fact that he was basically about the be enslaved to some chick who thought that luring Pokemon out by setting fire to government owned property was a good idea. Being enslaved at all was generally a thing that most free Pokemon feared. It wasn't easy to roam free, only to have that right stripped of you like... well, something that would be ripped from a Pokemon. And this was why he would have punched – sliced open? He didn't really have fingers to curl into a ball and punch with, anyway – a tree or a wall or something if he weren't frozen in spot because that was most definitely a Poke'Ball flying his way and he most definitely was not happy. And maybe just the slightest bit scared.
Worst. Day. Ever.
To explain what the inside of a Poke'Ball looked like would be like explaining what the Distortion World looked like. In other words, well... it was a little difficult and, therefor, the bug-type is unable to relay the information onto you. You are free to speculate, however. What you can know, however, is the fact that he could feel the ball shake around him. A good choice for Pokemon of his general skill and level. With low enough health, a status ailment, and a good choice of technology, it would certainly be hard to break out. And so it shook once, despite how he tried to struggle, the paralysis effects wearing off slightly from being shrunk down in size however that worked. And again. By this time, he was starting to grow frantic until he remembered – he remembered - … Oh. If he broke out, she'd just attack him more. Burn the forest more. And he'd be frozen in place again, as well; he didn't stand a chance. So he embraced the fear that came with the unknown endevour that would be becoming a trainer's Pokemon and felt the sphere tremble around him once more before snapping shut for good.
